summer is as summer does right. the time doesn’t just march during these warmer months but seems to have picked up from a mellow trot to a nice run to a full blown crazed neverending charge. hold on tight.
seems that technology is following the same path. lion is out + that rumored new phone complete with cloud support is on the way. always hear about the some geeks down at stanford or mit tweaking this setting or that but this is insane – post production focal point control. wondering how long until we simply wear cameras as the norm on jobs or even in life + then the work becomes the edit. when there’s auto edit, + i’m not talking animoto, then i’m outta this game for sure.
in the meantime, still working on eyes + boundaries. still following db cooper.
+ if that’s not enough star wars is now legal currency + sigur ros is making movies.
enjoy!
i think it’s diluted these days but it’s still out there.
unfortunately we have all too many opportunities to find it;
currently featured in pdn + national geo traveler’s world in focus contest with a series of images from the blackfeet nation in western montana. more on my site under blackfeet. is it just me or is pdn departing from their mainstays of world in focus + photo annual + offering a contest for every day of the week?
also have work out in a story for oregon state university that was a really interesting piece of work. from getting up at 3am to 10 hours in the car to the weathered + opinionated locals it was a good chunk of old fashioned hands-on photography.
+ if you’re in the right crowd(s) you can see more portrait work from a shoot in seattle at a trapeze arts school in the recent print version of aarp + winter running in the rockies in men’s fitness.
when you have it life is beyond good because it’s just getting better + yet there’s really no way to keep it on your side as by definition it has to end sometime. 2011 is rolling like this + while i couldn’t put my finger on it recently someone else was able to do that for me.
momentum.
use it wisely + keep it on your side.
that’s what happens with all the good projects, all the good stuff in general. i think 2011 is the year for it. can see it in this gallery of scandinavian landscapes for sure + imagine over the course of six weeks in an old “76 toyota corolla that peter boel just keep rolling with it. feeling it. it shows. fantastic work from what i’m glad to call my homeland.
here’s a start from something totally different. something with a bit of momentum though.
if you haven’t had your reflective new year’s walk, now’s the time. a great opportunity to take stock of your personal evolution, your work, your direction + the business you are running. start your copyright registration this year (quarterly), refresh your promo efforts, dive into that wicked project that’s been floating in your head, pull off that adventure you’ve been dreaming of.
here in portland, the chinese garden “the most authentic outside of china” is free this week if that’s your style. i prefer the cover of darkness myself but have recently taken to a new moleskine that pushes me into the light occasionally.
明けましておめでとうございます = happy new year.
this is strange stuff optically + i’m interested in the repercussions down the road. optical camouflage via kinect by interactive designer takayuki fukatsu.
great photo project tokyo compression from hong kong based michael wolf. if you’ve ever had the joy of riding in tokyo at rush hour you might feel this a little deeper. unfortunately i had the pleasure a few years ago on my way back to tokyo from pataogonia headquarters south in kamakura. the stories are true. not as bad as it sounds or looks though. i mean, the first gentlemen is even sporting a smile.
what a year. w/o going into it all thanks to everyone who has contributed + inspired. i’m looking forward to a brilliant birthday + xmas + a kick ass 2011.
final shout out of the year to friends who were involved + pulled me into contributing to this fine new book, fifty classic ski descents of north america. great excuse to get out with a good friend + fly above snowy the peaks of glacier np on a beautifully clear, cold winter day. haven’t seen it yet but outside mag had good things to say + just put it on their xmas list so if you know a snowfreak indulge.
the line was more or less down the shadow line. brilliant pete. happy holidays.
in the spirit of the new book contact sheet via ammo books i thought i’d share. find it damn cool to see the imagery + work surrounding famous + familiar images. you know this is the way the process works but to see some of the contact sheets just reinvigorates one’s focus.
i’ve done this unconsciously for years, digging back through work kind of like looking back at those old school yearbooks. once you get a peek you’re sucked in for hours. in this case it’s not a waste of time though as you gain an understanding of evolution – personal evolution if it’s your work + that of someone else if it’s not.
here are a few to put things in reference.
