good week all across the west this first week of oct 2008. here are a few things that were i not working in california i would definitely consider.
pdx – the grassy knoll gallery in old town (right around the corner from the old cal’s skate shop) is hosting an eye-catching reception for first thursday – 10.2.08 – ward jenkins will be presenting his exhibtion “b-boy”. and to really add to the authenticity of the event a slew of pdx’ best breakdancers will be on site performing including Randm-1, Impulse, Skywalker of Moon Patrol Crew and guest DJ Computer Fam. ward dabbles in a bit of everything and is the brains behind The Ward-o-Matic blog about in his words “art, animation and anything aesthetically pleasing to the eye”.
seattle – killer photographer charles peterson, himself a b-boy and rock n roll fan, spits out a brilliant new book entitled cypher. it chronicles petersons adventures with breakdancing across 6 years and events in pdx, seattle, la and nyc. and to add to the fun he did it mostly in medium format – superb touch charles. i wish there was an actual event for this, maybe in the near future. here’s the blurb from the publisher;
Acclaimed rock photographer Charles Peterson is back with a new subject
quick note as our numbers have changed highlighting my growing presence in oregon. you now have the option of reaching the montana office directly at 406.862.3811 or me in oregon at 503.501.8174. either number will reach me within hours if not sooner.
have been on the road for the past month more or less and off again soon. do have an update on international travel as it affects photographers, specifically between canada and the us, so stay tuned.
have been orchestrating a few moves lately and wanted to announce that i’m now working out of portland, oregon in addition to the montana office. have been expanding into my hometown for awhile and look forward to being there on a regular basis. caught the tail end of the rose festival (and the opening of the new voodoo donuts on the eastside) recently and will be out again in a few weeks.

also wanted to pass along a shout out to the folks at newblogwatch.com for the recognition lately. had the blog featured as one of their choice picks lately. my hat is off to Neon Sky as they have done a knock up job on customizing my site here leaving me more time for creativity elsewhere.
speaking of which, more to come on a creative concept that’s been hanging on for weeks…
Earth Day mentions for this green week:
First of all, a handful of ideas I touched on back in 10.2007 here including writing in green causes as line items. And if you’re into the work of recent Rowell Award winner James Balog, then this post on Glacier National Park photography I previously alluded to is right up your alley.
Closer to me personally is my video point man Nico Hudak. Brilliant with motion and capable of creativity beyond mere mortals Nico is a great collaborator. We have a great things in store. While you can check out his work anytime here, inline with the cause of the week check out his documentary Triple Bottom Line (above). If you’re unfamiliar with the phrase check it out and start making it work. The NY Times Magazine even brings it up this week.
The photo community has it’s green fill via the pdnonline segment, “Shooting For Green Agencies” though you have to have a subscription (not a bad idea). More in the feature story, “Paint It Green” in PDN’s April 2008 issue.
Lastly, for all you trend setters in this week of looking ahead, don’t forget to pay attention to the future … or at least don’t ignore those who have.
