are we really all that original? are our tastes, + to some degree vision, influenced by those around us, those online with us, those spewing towards us? most say no + march on unaware really how exposed they are.

i’m on the other side. there’s no doubting how much we pull in every single waking second. and with the direction advertising’s going probably will be taking in while sleeping soon enough as well. we all profess to be in on the latest greatest independent music, movie, taste + what do we do with it – we post it online every chance we get. we aren’t machines + this type of extraneous exposure to fads, trends + ‘the latest’ has to lead us, to some degree, down the very path we attempt to avoid. is imaging working the same way.

whether it’s your taste in beer or your taste in music(via the ny times below), we have reasons + to a large extent those reasons also have us. they grip us into acting, well, like humans. in other words, we are unable to dissect out associations with brands or bands from the actual product. we’re not computers, we process cultural information + that is a good thing. most of the time. at least when we’re not secretly digging on celine + britney.

glen friedman is a one man history show.

hailed by the washington post, “one of the greats of his generation”.

a one man documentary machine of skating & music history. he has covered iconic artists such as Fugazi, Black Flag, Ice-T, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, The Misfits, Bad Brains, Beastie Boys, Run-D.M.C., KRS-One, and Public Enemy, as well as classic skateboarding originators such as Tony Alva, Jay Adams, Alan Gelfand, Duane Peters, and Stacy Peralta.

his ‘fuck you‘ series has been exhibited worldwide and put into books. and he’s done it all with style and dare i say grace.

this is what passion can do – it has carried glen far beyond what he ever thought but he’s one dedicated mofo who deserves it.
