five things for your weekend pondering…
The customer has been heard - airlines won’t stop losing your luggage but they have recently agreed to a new data sharing partnership that sounds like it will allow Airtags to show in airline apps. Announced in Nov, 15 airlines are implementing this starting with United this year. More here. I’m curious how UX will play into this within the various apps - will it be different between each airline or will we see global patterns emerge? Who, if anyone, will own those? Is there potential for more issues with fragmented functionality with this change?
Unsure where I land on the AI spectrum yet but quickly learning more. For a more well developed opinion we turn to Jenny Blackburn of Google’s Gemini via the Design Better podcast.
My latest experiment is something I’ve pursued for some time, the 4 day work week. Just getting going so a ton to learn but curious how it stacks up to this latest from Empower newsletter The Currency, “Americans’ efforts at work are worth celebrating, as productivity continues to grow. The third quarter of 2024 marked the fifth consecutive quarter of 2% or higher growth. Meanwhile, job quitting rates dipped to 1.9%, the lowest in recent months. The unemployment rate — 4.1% in December — is near historical lows dating to the late 1940s.”
Relatedly, this from James Clear, "Nearly everything awesome takes longer than you think. Get started and don't worry about the clock." Because, you know, Parkinson’s Law.
Design only cost you $500 million. One of the biggest misses ever. Talkin to you Sonos. via the Wall St Journal (sorry about the paywall). and curious why this only comes up when design misses - how much is successful design worth + why don’t we see that in mainstream media more often?!?!?
